Place Based & Project Based in Your Backyard

Apply today!

Practice Place and Project with our team as we explore and learn from educators in the Great Lakes Bay Region. We’re partnering with folks at the Chippewa Nature Center, Bay City Historical Museum and more to bring your a unique week of place and project based learning.

We’ll make our home base at Hartley Nature Center, exploring and experimenting with their naturalists. We’ll take a few field trips to visit other community partners and spend time building a PBL project for your classroom.

Meet one of our facilitators!
Devon Riter is a PhD candidate at the University of Michigan, specializing in K-12 science education. Devon taught middle and high school science at Lower Brule Tribal Schools for five years, where he developed a passion for place based education rooted in students’ lives, communities, and cultures. Devon’s current work is centered around building technologies that can reduce the time and money needed to bring place based education to more K-12 classrooms.

If you’re interested in trying place or project based learning, but looking to do with with the support of a team? This PD is for you.
