Relief Carving
Free
Mon, Aug 3, 2020, 1:00 PM EDT – Thu, Aug 6, 2020, 2:00 PM EDT
6th-8th Grade
Students will learn the basics of relief carving and the considerations required to create original rubber stamps. This experience involves the use of sharp carving tools and adult supervision is recommended whenever students are working on their projects. With plenty of opportunities for practice, participants will create either several versions of a similar stamp or a variety of different designs that they will then use to display in a few unique ways. After learning how the basics and practicing relief prints made of foam and carved out of rubber, students will explore the possibilities of using these same tools to chip-carve a basswood block to develop a 3D carving.
